Hermosa Beach Murals Project- Logo design

We were lucky enough to be involved with the Hermosa Beach Murals Project, which is devoted to bringing Public art and education of it’s history to this fantastic town. This is a project that we are quite interested in, especially since our own mural, which we commissioned to make after the Centennial celebration, accomplishes a great deal of the same goals.

So we met with some committee members to brainstorm logo ideas and came up with a few rough concepts. The goal was to create a logo that gives you a sense that the natural beauty and qualities of Hermosa will be displayed in and through murals and public art. So we worked up this sketch based on the idea:

Here’s the first rough version made in Flash:

It went back to the committee and some revisions were asked for:

There was some more emphasis put on the “murals” portion, and I attempted to bring the “Hb” more inline with the city by including the elements from the city seal, but ultimately found it was too busy.

The final version weathered a font change to simplify the look and some cleaning up of the “project” portion, including the removal of the pesky dot above the “j”:

And there you have it! Ready to advertise this fantastic group of volunteers! Please consider donating to the Hermosa Murals Project and help them bring more work from artists like us into the public sphere and teach history to their community.
