On the eve of 2011, we’d like to look back at some of our biggest accomplishments of the year:
Dawn’s Sketch Diary: Dawn set out to record her sketches at the beginning of this year, and now there are 150 new sketches displayed on the site! they’re in a variety of mediums and themes, ranging from still life to portraits, and comics to JFK conspiracies!
Neal’s QR code paintings: This year Neal became fascinated with using QR Codes in new and interesting ways and given his most recent painting, it’s showing no signs of drying up soon! You can read about his concepts and plans on working with QR Codes here.
“The Snake Who Would Not Bend” and “Labor and Love”: This is the year that we both became published book illustrators! Dawn’s children’s book with writer Robb Fulcher was published back in February and Neal’s comic book with Sam Costello was published in a limited run a few months back (with more copies to be published soon.) Check out our store for more info!
Richmond St. Tile Murals: Dawn painted a trio of lovely tile murals for Richmond St. School in El Segundo. You can see their process here!
Illustrations for “The Mongoliad”: Neal was lucky to contribute 8 full color illustrations to “The Mongoliad”, a collaborative novel by Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear and a host of other talented folks. You can see them all in our Illustration portfolio. This project really cemented Neal’s love of illustration as well as his working method, which he began doing live presentations about this year. You can read through his presentation on digital and traditional art techniques here.
Portraits of the Fallen Memorial Project: Dawn contributed a lovely painting to this very inspiring project which attempts to make portraits of soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Videos: We made a few videos this year showcasing our process on a number of projects. You can see us working on a children’s room, a preschool mural, and Neal’s process for a digital illustration.
We had many other small triumphs this year, our classes have been taking off (especially Dawn’s ceramics classes.) We’re on all the big social networks, Facebook, Linkedin, Google+, Twitter, etc. We post behind the scenes info, process, sales and coupons often. And according to our website stats, every section of our portfolio has been updated this year with over 900 new images and samples of our work!
Finally, we want to thank each and every one of you for your support this year. If it weren’t for the interest and great ideas you all have had, we would have very little to talk about here. We are very appreciative of your patronage and support and we hope we can work together again in 2012 and beyond! Please don’t hesitate to contact us, either for an upcoming project or just to let us know what you think!
All the best to your and yours in 2012!
